Move 29 – 2000 4 September 1796

1^st and 2^nd Austrian divisions rest and resupply at Rivoli

3^rd and 4^th Austrian divisions arrive at San Bonifacto

3^rd French division arrives at Verona

5^th French division holds Verona

When Wurmster enters San Bonifacio he receives a report of the Austrian victory at Rivoli

He cavalry also report that the whole of the French army has concentrated at Verona

This is incorrect, in fact Bonaparte is retreating through Verona towards Perschia

Wurmster is unable to contact his divisions are Rivoli due to the river Aidge.

He decides to deploy at Bonifacio and await news from Rivoli

Move 28 – 1600 4 September 1796

1^st and 2^nd Austrian divisions rest and resupply at Rivoli

3^rd and 4^th Austrian divisions march towards Verona

Bonaparte continues to retreat with 3^rd and 4^th French divisions

5^th French division enters Verona

Move 27 – 1200 4 September 1796

1^st and 2^nd Austrian divisions halt at Rivoli to regroup

Wurmster is still unaware of the Austrian victory at Rivoli

He orders 3^rd and 4^th divisions to continue their march towards Verona

At first light Bonaparte continues his retreat towards Verona.

He decides to retreat to Perschia, where there are sufficient artillery to replace his losses at Rivoli

He sends orders to 5^th division to hold Verona to cover his retreat

He also sends orders to 6^th division to continue their siege of Mantua

Move 26 – 2000 3 September 1796

As night falls Bonaparte is in retreat from Rivoli towards Verona.

He has lost 450 infantry, 80 cavalry and 80 gunners

1^st and 2^nd Austrian divisions have entered Rivoli

They have lost 100 infantry between them.

To the west Wurmster is unaware of the victory at Rivoli

He orders 3^rd and 4^th Austrian divisions to rest at Montebello and resupply

5^th French division is marching east towards Verona
