Campaign Move 19 – Battles of Verona and Montebello

Move 19 - 1200 to 1600 27 July 1796

3rd Austrian division continue to attack 3rd French division at Verona

4th French division continue to attack 4th Austrian division at Montebello

5th French division moves south to join Bonaparte south of Lake Garda

1st Austrian division continues to retreat north towards Limone.

2nd Austrian division moves west to join Wurmster at Verona

Campaign Move 18 – Battles of Verona and Montebello

5th French division moves south to join Bonaparte south of Lake Garda

Campaign Move 17 – French win Battle of Salo

Move 17 - 1600 to 2000 26 July 1796

5th French division win the infantry battle on the hill and the Austrians retreat north.
The French cavalry are still in rout, and they are out of supply
They halt on the field of battle to rally and resupply

1st Austrian division have broken and routed north through Solo.
They have also run out of supplies and will be non operational for the rest of the campaign

Bonaparte has rested and resupplied the remainder of his army
5th division moves north to engage the eastern Austrian division at Montebello at first light

2nd and 4th Austrian divisions have halted to resupply
3rd division has started to move south towards Verona

Campaign Move 16 – Battle of Salo

Move 16 - 1200 to 1600 26 July 1796

South of Salo the battle has warmed up.

Austrian gunners concentrate their fire on the French cavalry, who suffer light casualties and are shaken.   The Austrian cavalry advance to take advantage, but in turn come under fire from the French gunners and also suffer casualties.  Both sides withdraw shaken.

To the west the infantry are engaged in a skirmish fight.  Both sides now commit more infantry to this combat

South of Lake Garda Bonaparte has concentrated two divisions at Verona to hold the main Austrian advance until the battle of Salo is decided.

East of the Lake the main Austrian army is running low on supplies.   3rd division halt at Rivoli to resupply.   2nd and 4th divisions continue to move south, but must halt soon to resupply.
